Frequently Asked Questions
What type of riding do you teach?
Twin Lakes Farm specializes in hunt-seat equitation. Our lessons focus on correct position, effective communication with the horse, and strong fundamentals. Riders progress through a structured curriculum from beginner through advanced levels.
What is your weight limit for riders?
For the safety and well-being of both horse and rider, Twin Lakes Farm has a rider weight limit of 180 pounds.
What is your cancellation policy?
Twin Lakes Farm has a 24-hour cancellation policy. We require at least 24-hours notice prior to cancelling a lesson, otherwise the rider is charged in full. This policy ensures our instructors’ time is respected and our horses’ workloads are properly managed.
How do I schedule a lesson?
New riders can start by booking an Introductory Lesson through our office. After placement, lessons are scheduled on a recurring weekly basis. Please contact our front desk team by phone or email to check availability and secure your spot.
How high do you jump in lessons?
Our jumping lessons are designed to build strong equitation skills and confidence. Most academy riders jump between crossrails through 2' depending on level and experience. For the safety of both horse and rider, jumps are introduced progressively and limited to one jump lesson per week.
Do you offer a therapeutic riding program?
Twin Lakes Farm does not manage a therapy program, but we have two additional programs that use our facility that we love to recommend! Stable Equine Assisted Therapy & Learning specializes in hippotherapy for children and adults who live with physical or intellectual disabilities that require specialized instruction. Dream Catchers E.A.S.T. is an unmounted equine-assisted therapy/learning program with the potential to benefit individuals struggling with emotional, social, cognitive, and mental health challenges through a connection with the equine.
Do you offer trail riding?
We do not offer public trail riding or one-time rental rides. Our program is structured around lessons, leasing, and educational opportunities with a focus on progression.
Can I schedule a one-time or casual ride?
You are welcome to schedule a one-time lesson, but our program focuses on structured programming with progression in mind. Riders participate through scheduled lessons, leasing opportunities, and structured programs.
What age do riders need to be to start?
Our program begins with riders as young as 6 years old, with age-appropriate instruction tailored to each level.
Do you provide helmets and equipment?
Riders must have an ASTM/SEI–approved riding helmet. Helmets can be borrowed for the first lesson, but we strongly recommend purchasing your own for proper fit and safety. Boots with a heel are also required, but we can provide for the first few lessons.
Can adults take lessons, or is it just for kids?
We welcome riders of all ages! Our program is built for children, teens, and adults, with both group and private lesson options.
Do you allow outside trainers?
No, all instruction at Twin Lakes Farm is provided by our staff of professional instructors to ensure consistency and safety in our program.
Can I lease or half-lease a horse?
Yes. We offer several leasing opportunities within our program, from short-term leases to our weekly leasing program, designed to give riders more saddle time without the full commitment of horse ownership.
Do you host horse shows?
Yes! Twin Lakes Farm hosts Academy Horse Shows at our Riding Academy for our riders as well as special events and opportunities for riders to compete locally as well as our South Campus hosts rated horse shows that are recognized through USHJA and FWPHA. We welcome all community members to come out and watch our riders to cheer them on!
